#2 SOAK UP THE SUN
KAREN BENNET
Enjoy the sunshine and flowers while working on this cute quilt, which measures 56” x 56”. While the pattern is shown with yellow flowers, options abound! Think red for funky poinsettias, or maybe think a fall theme using more oranges. Your imagination is the only limit. It’s also a great quilt to use up some of your scraps.
The background is mostly squares but in four different colors, so there is a lot of movement. However, the flowers and leaves all incorporate curved pieces.
If you’ve never worked with curves before, this is a great starter quilt. If you’ve tried curves before, then you will be an expert by the time you finish this one. No appliqué is required. And the method we will use in class requires no pinning – yay!!! The blocks go together a lot faster than you would think. You should be able to finish most, if not all, of the blocks in class.
The book Mini Wonderful Curves by Jenny Pedigo and Helen Robinson for Sew Kind of Wonderful is required, along with the QCR Mini Ruler.
PATTI CLINE
I love the look of a traditional hand-appliquéd quilt, but I will never, ever make one. This quilt comes pretty close to satisfying my desires. It has a traditional look and lots of space for quilting. The pattern is Pecan Blossoms by Fig Tree and Co. ($12). Construction is basic piecing. Most of the piecing is “flippy corners”. No specialty rulers are required. I have simplified the cornerstones by using 9 patches. The pre-cutting is simple. Join me for 3 days of sewing fun.

This year, I’m proposing something easy! Kaleidoscope has unlimited variations. It’s one of my favorite quilts to make because it can be scrappy, pulling everything from your stash, or it can have fussy cut pieces, creating the look of a real kaleidoscope. No curves, all straight line sewing, even though the design gives the illusion of curves.
The book I recommend is Marti Michell’s Kaleidoscope ABCs, along with her Kaleido-Ruler, large size, for cutting the pieces. The book has lots of variations with yardage and cutting information. It’s also great when planning your scrap quilts because it has info on cutting random pieces. The ruler has everything you need for making blocks from 6” to 16”.
If you want to make the version with fussy cut triangles, you will need 8 repeats, so the yardage needed depends on the size of the repeat.
This book and template are discontinued, but at this time, we are well stocked. Please order early while we still have them in stock, and give yourself plenty of time to cut before class.

SUSAN EDMONSON
Take another Wildflower walk with Susan through the woods! If you took Susan’s “Wildflower Tales” class in the past, these flowers will be different from those. Let’s stitch flowers to make a creative journal with little facts and quotes about each of the flowers. The stitches will be done using Pearl Cotton Threads and embellished with ribbons and unique hand-dyed fabrics, cheesecloth, velveteen, linen, velvet, and more for each flower. We will focus on one flower each day, two if time allows, but more information will be given for other flower pages.
Each signature will have a collaged page and a 3-D flower page. This little journal book will be put together uniquely with the addition of ribbons and buttons. However, if you just want to do one or two flowers, they can be framed or put on a ribbon for a bunting/garland or a Prayer Flag. Susan will have ideas for different book constructions during class. So join Susan for this creative journey!
#6 SUNKISSED STARS
JOANNE SHROPSHIRE
Sun-kissed Stars- the movement in this quilt keep your eye looking at the entire quilt. The half rectangles almost give the illusion of a pineapple block, but it’s not. The quilt can be done with a number of fabrics, like the picture, or with just 5 colors and a background. Half-square rectangles are big right now, and that’s what drew me to this pattern. What I really like about this pattern is that there is no need for a specialty ruler.
Hope you love it as much as I do. See you in January.
#7 THEN CAME JUNE
CINDY BARONE
This quilt is a great skill builder. Each block is made up of squares, rectangles and flying geese. We will review several ways to make flying geese as painless as possible. You do not need to purchase a special ruler. Feel free to bring your favorite flying geese tool if you have one.
If you like quilts with a modern look and a complex feel, this quilt is perfect for you. “Pathways” is made using one simplistic block that rotates and combines with sashing and corner stones to create a larger, unique pattern block. It looks difficult, but it is truly very simple. Adding the use of contrasting colors enhances the appeal. The quilt is made with squares, rectangles, and half-square triangles (HST). In class, you will learn how to make 8 HSTs at a time, without the need for any special rulers. For those students who like using Thangles to make their HSTs, Ann will have them available for your use. This quilt can be modified to make it larger or smaller with the addition or subtraction of blocks. If you have a special size, you need to let Ann know so she can design that size for you. The initial blocks are 6” in size, but then the magic begins.
SANDY JACOBS
This is a very simple quilt to make. You can use scraps or yardage. I used scraps of 30s prints. The quilt on the pattern is made from Kaffe. It is only one block, so you get into a rhythm. The pattern gives you three sizes; mine is throw size.
